living in interesting times...

It's been a busy few weeks again... I've been cranking away at work, where we're working on a pretty cool system that I can finally talk about (and invite everyone to come see) sometime in July. Beyond that, life has been a blur of events, wedding plans, food, and sleep.

I've been so busy and stressed, in fact, that I just looked in the refrigerator here at work and discovered my coffee from yesterday morning. I had placed it in the fridge to stay cold (since it's iced coffee, of course), while I tended to one thing or another... and forgot about it. No wonder I was in such a crappy mood yesterday. Oh well, more coffee for today.

Anyway, one particular bit of work that I managed lately was getting the Eidetic Images gallery set up and somewhat populated. It's missing a lot of older events, but all new motorsports photography is going to go up over there, including the ones that I'll be bringing back next weekend from the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix. I'll be setting up a photo blog over there too, namely to put up miscellaneous photography musings, links, tips, and reviews. Realistically, it'll just be another blog that I can fail to keep updated.

While eating lunch today, I ran across a highly entertaining bit of news. I was browsing Wikipedia, looking up random items. A pair of scissors on my desk ended up leading me to the entry on "Rock, Paper, Scissors."

"... the Court will fashion a new form of alternative dispute resolution, to wit: ... counsel shall engage in one (1) game of "rock, paper, scissors."
One of the citations caught my eye, and I followed it to a recent CNN article regarding a federal ruling passed down by one Judge Gregory A. Presnell of the US District Court, Middle District of Florida, Orlando Division. Apparently, the lawyers involved have been going back and forth over rather irrelevant issues of the case. In one of the most entertaining rulings since Judge Leif Clark's citation of Billy Madison back in March, Presnell ordered the two sides to settle the latest disagreement via an official game of Rochambeau.

UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT MIDDLE DISTRICT OF FLORIDA ORLANDO DIVISION

ORDER

This matter comes before the Court on Plaintiff's Motion to designate location of a Rule 30(b)(6) deposition (Doc. 105). ORDERED that said Motion is DENIED. The winner of this engagement shall be entitled to select the location for the 30(b)(6) deposition to be held somewhere in Hillsborough County during the period July 11-12, 2006. If either party disputes the outcome of this engagement, an appeal may be filed and a hearing will be held at 8:30 A.M. on Friday, July 7, 2006 before the undersigned in Courtroom 3, George C. Young United States Courthouse and Federal Building, 80 North Hughey Avenue, Orlando, Florida 32801.

Comedy freaking gold. Think there's a business model to be found in high-end "RPS Consulting" to major corporate legal clients?
